  11. The statement was repeated that the views from Indians who
  12. are Americans from the lower 48 can't be applicable to the
  13. situation of Alaskan natives.
  14.  
  15. That's inaccurate, of course. Indians and Eskimos of the north have
  16. had to deal with the same assaults on them by Europeans as in
  17. other areas of North America. We can be sure that when European
  18. voices arise among us, counseling division and disengagement from
  19. each other they are not in our interests, but in those who oppose
  20. us. Tehcumseh, the Great Unifier, was feared by our opponents because
  21. he sought to reveal to us how powerful we could be together in
  22. protecting our own mutual interests against those of the conquerors.

  24. In my own case, I am not a citizen of the United States, yet in no way
  25. do such European-imagined boundaries abolish the Indian nations which
  26. prexisted British North America, and then Canada and the United States.
  27. In fact, American law recognizes this, and it applies to natives of the
  28. far north just as equally as to those in the south.

  30. Moreover, there are some folk who can't engage in any discussion without
  31. voluminously disagreeing about everything and anything, without apparent basis
  32. other than satisfying some odd motives of their own. In their own
  33. minds I am sure they have become irrefutable and unassailable, but it does not
  34. appear that way to others. And those others quickly lose interest when
  35. they realize such individuals also seem impervious to reasoning
  36. together.

  38. For those who might believe that accusations, about 80%
  39. of male natives being arrested being completely false,
  40. I urge you to check the statistics for any jurisdiction in
  41. the U.S. and Canada. In some, it is much higher. Such were the
  42. findings of such non-native groups as the U.S. Senate Subcommittee
  43. on Indian Affairs and various Canadian Royal Commissions. Let me
  44. emphasis that these findings applied to all states and provinces,
  45. including the far north.

  47. It is a strange phenomenon when a white person who has married a native
  48. should pose as a defender of natives, while twisting facts, subtly and
  49. otherwise, to the detriment of those natives. When a person is related
  50. to them, it veers very near to a form of abuse. I urge such people
  51. to examine the motives in their hearts, and reconsider their actions.
