- and in fact he was able to cure syphillis using medicines prepared from
- mercury. a reliable cure for syphillis was not developed until the
- (1890's? 1900's?) by paul ehrlich, using another normally poisonous
- metal (arsenic). now, as near as I can determine, the secret fire is
- prepared from several ingredients which include copper sulphate and
- some other stuff. the process of preparing it (as can be gleaned from
- artephius) is rather involved; I don't know, however, if it is
- involved enough to render this highly toxic substance harmless. in
- fact, I rather think it isn't.
