  17. all of these predictions of 'the end of the world' are either
  18. misunderstood astronomical myths, or bullshit, or both. I am
  19. completely confident that world is not going to end anytime
  20. soon. I am reasonably confident that human civilization is
  21. not going to end anytime soon. Anyone at all is welcome to
  22. bet me $1000 against my $1000 that the world is going to end 
  23. on any given date you care to specify, be it 31 December 1999,
  24. 23 December 2012, 28 October 1993 (in case the korean christians
  25. decide that they made a slight miscalculation and it's coming a
  26. year later) or whatever.
