- Multinet TCP's Telnet command automatically goes into TN3270 mode when talking
- to an IBM host. One of the most irritating things I felt about DEC's UCX
- product was that it assumed you had an Ultrix box to complete the
- implementation. For example, they don't implement name server ("your Ultrix
- machine can do that for you"), TN3270 ("why not go through your Ultrix
- machine?"), NFS Client ("NFS is only there to provide disk space for your
- Ultrix machines") and until recently SMTP ("Ultrix has a MAIL-11/SMTP
- gateway"). I don't know whether UCX has NTP, RIP, EGP, RMT (great for doing
- network backups to remote tape drives), but, what the hell, if it doesn't
- there's always the trusty Ultrix machine.
-
- I wanted a complete TCP/IP implementation on my VAX that didn't require a
- Unix based crutch. We bought Multinet.
