  30.          SPECIAL EDITION:   THE DFWLUG 10TH ANNIVERSARY PARTY!

  33. Everything went perfect for the 10th anniversary party of the DFWLUG!
  34.     
  35. We held the party at the Dryfes club a screened in area looking out over 
  36. White Rock Lake.  The weather was sunny, warm and an overall beautiful
  37. day.
  38.  
  39. First we had BBQ beef and chicken, Margaritas and Sodas, then we 
  40. cut the LUG birthday CAKE!  The cake was two cakes one with the 
  41. new DFWLUG logo and the other with the DECUS logo.  
  42.  
  43. Stuart Renes Lug chairman for the last 10 years got up and introduced
  44. Laurie Maytrott (our current Southern regional coordinator)who congratulated 
  45. the LUG on 10 years and announced that Chris Simon (of FMC) would be the 
  46. future Regional LUG coordinator for the DFWLUG and the entire Southwest
  47. region!  (Texas is joining the Southwest LUG region and it appears
  48. Chris is running unopposed for Southwestern Regional LUG Coordinator!) 
  49.  
  50. Then Stuart  got back up and introduced Rick Valenzi from Frank Bowden's 
  51. office (Vice president of Digital's Central Area).
  52.  
  53. Rick Valenzi from SCA presented the placks and certificates to the 
  54. steering committee and the whole event went like clockwork. 
  55.  
  56. Stuart received two commemeratives, one an 8 1/2" x 11" wood plack 
  57. commemerating 10 years of service to the Digital Community and a 
  58. parchment signed by Frank Bowden, Keith Butler (Digital's North Texas
  59. /Oklahoma's Account Group Manager) and the entire DFWLUG staff.

  61. Other Staff members were also presented with 5x7 placks from Digital.  
  62.  
  63. One large plack 11 x 14 was also presented to Stuart that commemerates 
  64. Digital and the DFWLUG's 10 year history. 
  65.  
  66. There were 50+ LUG members present with their families, the total event
  67. was about 75-80 people.  Certificates and awards were given out by Stuart
  68. Renes to folks who helped the LUG.
  69.  
  70. We gave out 60 of the DFWLUG commemerative coffee MUGS, almost all my 
  71. VMSclusters/Alpha Cluster Posters (the ones with the Cloudless Earth), 
  72. and then we had the Raffle.
  73.  
  74. The raffle consisted of the names of all the LUG members as of July 1992
  75. cut up into small strips and put into a Bag.  We pulled about 12 names
  76. before we found a name of someone in attendance (you had to be present
  77. to win!).

  79. Kent Montee from Dallas Area Rapid Transit won the 19" color VXT200 and 
  80.             the Infoserver donated by Digital Desktop services.
  81.  
  82. Kent was very excited and pleased with his "GIFT" and was looking forward
  83. to using the Xterminal at home.
  84.  
  85. We pulled another several names of members who were not present
  86. (general concensus indicated that all of the names drawn of those
  87.  who weren't present should be posted in the next newsletter!) 
  88.  
  89. Larry Culver from Blockbuster Entertainment for one of the DECpc 333sx
  90.              donated by the Local Digital Office.
  91. And,
  92.  
  93. Louie Rousseau from Lancaster Independant School District won the other DECpc.

  95. Larry was very excited by his good fortune and didn't have a terminal or
  96. modem at his house -- He will now.
  97.  
  98. Louie and I were discussing Laptops before the raffle and he was talking 
  99. about getting needing a PC... 
  100.  
  101. The party began to wind down and we cleaned up, packed up and broke up
  102. about 5:15pm.

  104. And the DFWLUG concluded it's 10th anniversary celebration....
