- I'm a university student and I can't afford to buy the kind of HiFi
- system that I want, so I have decided to build it. The cost is
- (hopefully) lower, but more importantly, spred out over a longer
- period of time. From what I've understood, valve amps use simpler
- circuit designs than transistor or integrated circuit amps, plus I
- love the sound I've heard from the valve amps I've listened to.
-
- What I need is pointers to books or magazines from which I can learn
- the audio electronics needed to start building valve amps. I thought
- I'd start out easy and get a simple something that works, before I
- build the X2000-A4 150W class A valve amp of my dreams... :)
-
- I've studied some basic electronics here at the university, but I
- can't remember much about it, nor am I particularly adept at
- mathematics. If there is a good book that teaches audio electronics
- from the basics, I'd be very interested indeed in reading it.
-
- I primarily intend to play CDs, so I thought that I could settle for a
- descent class A valve power amp and between the CD and the amp I'd use
- a simple attenuator and buffer. I have some designs for this that I
- could use. However, I'm interested in learning about pre-amp design
- too, since I do have an old trusty 'vinyl lathe'.
