- Ken, I have experienced the same problems you describe. In both cases
- the problem was the TRANSMITTER not the car or it's electrics. My PCM
- and Magnum Jr both had the same failure. The steering wheel turns a
- potentiometer that is mounted to a piece of plastic that is "welded" in
- place at the factory. These "welds" (melted spots - "melds"???) break and
- allow the potentiometer to float around what should be the centerpoint.
- You can verify this by opening the radio and watch the plastic mount as you
- turn the wheel. Be careful. It's easy to fix.
-
- I fixed both radios using CA to glue the plastic mounting piece back in it's
- original position. Don't worry if it's not perfectly centered as you can
- change use the Steering Trim control to center the steering, (get it close
- or you will run out of trim capability.)
-
- You can also send the radio back to Futaba.
