- I, too, have just finished my Electra and have flown it with success. I added
- the optional landing gear (cost about $3 and 10 minutes of time) and wing
- skids, which are useless since the horizontal stabilizer scrapes before the
- wings do.
-
- On one of my flights, I had a crash on takeoff (no damage to the plane, thank
- God), which I assumed was caused by a low-speed stall because I didn't throw
- it hard enough. Since then, I throw it as hard as I can with one hand and
- have had none of the instability problems that you've had.
-
- Incidentally, I,too, was concerned about have the tx in one hand while throwing
- the plane and having it crash before I could get my other hand on the controls.
- I have in the past flown powered planes which take off from the ground and
- couldn't imagine the hell I'd have if the transmitter wasn't in my hands at all
- times. But, in my admittedly brief experience with the Electra, I've never even
- noticed that I didn't have the tx there at all times, and as soon as I've needed
- to adjust the controls (which was within nanoseconds for the first, untrimmed,
- flight), it's always been there. Somehow, without any conscious effort on my
- part, it magically moves into position.
-
- I live in Colorado, and the model flies quite well under power, but with the
- heavy battery packs it has a steeper glide ratio than I'd like. All-in-all,
- though, it's a very good and very easy to build plane.
