- All tires are speed rated. The question is, what is the rating? All that the
- speed rating tells you is, this tire can be expected to sustain speeds of
- "x" or less MPH for a reasonable period of time (hours) without having the
- tread separate from the belts, and other catastrophic things. Mostly it
- rates how well they stand up to heat, that being the primary killer of tires
- which have been running at high speed for a long time.
-
- The speed ratings I am aware of (going progressively upward in max speed) are
- "H", "V", and "Z". There is another rating for lower speed tires. And no, I
- don't remember exactly what speeds these ratings are for.
