- I have an 83 Ranger with a 2.3 liter 4 cyl. engine. As of late it has been
- running somewhat rough when at idle speed (almost sounds like a cylinder is
- misfiring). This truck has recently had: carb tuning, new plugs, new wires,
- timing set, oil change, new air filter, and gas treatment and Gumout sprayed
- down the carb. Recently it started running rough at idle speed. I noticed that
- when the key is on but the engine is not running I can hear a soft "knock...
- knock...knock" noise coming from below and around the air filter somewhere. It
- has since started making this noise after I slow down and come into idle speed.
- Could this be the fuel pump not working properly when the engine is at idle?
- Ideas are welcome.
