- I telemarketed one summer in college, and my experience was
- somewhat different. All calls were timed to the tenth of a
- second, and performance evaluation included short average
- time per call. If someone obviously wasn't interested, it
- was "Thank you for your time. Goodbye!"

- Besides, on good days half or more of my pay was sales
- commissions, so there wasn't much incentive to struggle with
- difficult customers. If they decided later they really did
- want what I was selling, they had an address to write for
- details.
