  11. My wife just received a solicitation for membership in the "National
  12. Association for Female Executives" or NAFE based in NY, NY.

  14. Does anyone have any information about the organization they could
  15. share with me?  Please send email and I'll post a summary, or you can
  16. post it if you have information you think the rest of the group would
  17. be interested in seeing it.  By emailing me information your consent
  18. to be quoted is implied unless I'm asked not to in your email.

  20. It looks like a reputable professional networking group, but we have
  21. reason to be suspicious of it.
  22. It came bulk rate.
  23. They claim to have a "local organization in virtually every major city
  24. -- including the one nearest you", but they are not listed in the San
  25. Diego phone book.
  26. "Fewer than 8% of the women in this country will ever receive the
  27. honor you've been given by our Nominating Committee.", which probably
  28. means they got a mailing list of 8 - 10 million women they're sending
  29. this bulk mailing to.

  31. On the plus side, it's only $29 annual dues, refundable if not
  32. satisfied (they say).
  33. They send a bi-monthly magazine plus several booklets and tests "to
  34. help you build your career".
  35. A resume service, an electronic "Head Hunter Service", credit line,
  36. savings on plane tickets, car rentals, hotels, etc., discounted books,
  37. group rates on insurance.

  39. Excuse me for rambling on, but I'm trying to give you a feel for what
  40. this organization is all about to see if anyone has had any good or
  41. bad experiences with similar offers.
