  12. This may be an unnecessary remark for most NB 4.0 users,
  13. but I write it for the record.

  15. NBSTART.INT, the file replacing the old STARTUP, runs in
  16. display-off mode. This means that you do not see on the
  17. command line the commands you have entered in the file.
  18. This does not cause any problem, naturally, unless you
  19. use NBSTART.INT to run an add-on, or a HELP screen for
  20. installation of additional features. HELP screens which
  21. cannot work in display-off mode (DX, or NB vx, or OV {ascii 30}X).
  22. I encountered this problem when I had to re-install my screen
  23. for customizing French, Swedish, and Hebrew date formats
  24. (see NB-DAT01.ZIP). Regretfully, although NB 4.0 has many
  25. improvements with the date formats (you can now type TODAY M.DD.YY
  26. etc. directly on the command line to get the desired today's
  27. date format), there is no built-in feature for any langauge
  28. other than English. A multilingual pgm like NBLINGUA could have
  29. used my old screen, at least!

  31. The solution for this -- and similar -- problems, is to introduce
  32. a display-on code (DO) before the running of the screen (or any
  33. other add-on that so requires).

  35. Of course, if for some reason you feel safer with the older
  36. format of STARTUP (which used to show you what's going on
  37. in detail; now you get short [but effective] messages),
  38. you can put DO at the very top of the file.

  44. 'innovations and imrovements', 'bugs and problems', and
  45. 'missing features', as main headings. If you are willing
  46. to contribute, please send me items (short, please; bewtween
  47. 3-7 lines), and I'll integrate them in this doc. I will
  48. then post the report for everybody's inspection.
