  18.   For the information of those who might still be waiting, a package of NB
  19. goodies has now made it across the East River at least to downtown Brook-
  20. lyn, propelled (no doubt) by the strong winds of the Columbus and anti-
  21. Columbus celebrations in Manhatten these last few days.  I have not yet
  22. the opportunity to *install*; I wanted to do a reasonably thorough read of
  23. several manuals and guides that came in the package before jumping in.  But
  24. I have noticed that many of the files are dated from mid to late Sept (two
  25. the 29th of Sept.), which encourages me to think that some of the early
  26. problems noted here may have already been corrected by the late mailings.
  27. I hope so.
  28.   While I am here I should like to thank Stan Anderson of Claremont for a
  29. substantially correct interpretation of a comment I made in a posting a
  30. short while ago.  I was roundly chastized by one of our self appointed high
  31. inquisitors for casting **personal aspersions**.  For the record I have
  32. been and still am entirely and firmly convinced Rebecca Bennett is one of
  33. the chief assets of DB/NBI.  She has always given me intelligent, quick
  34. and courteous help, even by fax which I have had to use during my normal,
  35. three summer months in Italy.  But I do have to wonder whether she and
  36. NBI are still going to be around in another year.  If NBI is so under-
  37. capitalized and understaffed that they have to put Ms. Bennett to addressing
  38. mailing lables, or whatever they had her spending a good part of her time
  39. doing this last month and a half (thereby wasting a genuine national
  40. resource), then we do have to worry about the prospects.  My own comment in
  41. the original posting was meant to remark on that situation.  I have read
  42. over that comment several times and for the life of me I cannot but think
  43. the interpretation for which I was castigated was somewhat forced (we do
  44. know that inquisitors have always had keener noses for heresy than others,
  45. sometimes sniffing it where none exists).
  46.   So thank you, Stan Anderson.  I am going to assume that the rest of this
  47. list read my original comment in the sense of your interpretation.
