- A buch of questions and comments:
- 1) I received NB/Lingua/IBID/IBID+ and installed it without installing
- lingua. I have an HGC+ card. On the SET menu I changed the symbol set
- to the HGC+ version with italics. All went fine. Then I did something
- exiting (I forgot to use the menu), using the ESC key, that cause the
- HGC fonts to remain, but the modes to get lost. Indeed, I did something
- that so corrupted the program that it won't load properly and finally
- froze the computer. I did a partial reinstallation, but obviously left
- out some key element: the program ran, but if I reSET the HGC fonts,
- the modes came out all wrong: Bold displays as the empty font garbage,
- etc., and could not be reset. Finally I reinstalled completely, and all
- is well.BUT WHAT did I do, and how can I avoid doing it again? What is
- the file I corrupted? If I knew I could at least make a backup. It
- appears not to be NB.COM or .EXE.
-
- 2) The compose key keeps telling me that Lingua is required, and F1
- doesnot bring up a chart after I press it. Is this peculiar to versions
- that have an uninstalled Lingua?
-
- 3)Where do you set default values for font family, etc. I see that they
- are in the NBCUSTOM.SET file, but how did they get there?
-
- 4) Is it necessarily the case that on a dot-matrix printer you can only
- get draft mode by putting an obscure delta into the file, which you must
- find and remove for a good-quality printing.
-
- I see that there is an empty NBSTART.INT file; I assume this is load
- last and that one could put interesting things, including defaults.
- Anyone know anything about this?
-
- 5) Intallation apparently reads your 3.x INIT file; it copied over d
- NBBD= etc. info to NBCUSTOM, which apparently confused the IBID
- installation. I did find that I had to copy the top line from my 3.1
- PICK.MEN to the new NBIBD.MEN to get it to recognize the exising
- biblio. (They are easily edited).
-
- 6)I find the new menu system takes some getting used to (and I haven't
- yet). On monochrome the overlapping menus are distractingly busy. But
- my one big complaint so far is that a directory disappears every time
- you use the directory menu; you can make it sit stably in a window only
- if you first put there with F9 dir or G on the menu, and then restrict
- yourself to F9 commands. Has anyone found a way to make it stable? I
- realize that in many respects I am still trying to "think" in 3.x and
- have not adapted my habits to do what 4.0 does advantageously--it
- obviously does a lot.
-
- Thanks for your patience with this.
