- A brief addition to my "gleam" of yesterday.
-
- My own package has finally arrived, and I have discovered that the
- upgrade packages rely on NB3 for more than just serialization
- information. They also use some of the speller and thesaurus files
- from the older version.
-
- This might explain the installation message that someone received when
- trying to install NB 4.0 in the same directory that had been used by
- NB 3.X. Note that the installation instructions state clearly that you
- must *either* install the NB 4.0 upgrade in a *different* directory
- than the NB 3.X programs used, or *else* have the NB 3.X Master
- Loading disk and Speller disk handy to insert when indicated. When
- one attempts to install in the same directory as NB 3.X then the
- install program tries to copy WORD.OVR (and some other files) over
- themselves, generating a DOS error. This is probably the source of
- the strange message reported earlier by some.
-
- To repeat--the safest alternative is to install NB 4.0 in a
- *different* directory than the one you used for NB 3.X.
