  11. A brief addition to my "gleam" of yesterday.

  13. My own package has finally arrived, and I have discovered that the
  14. upgrade packages rely on NB3 for more than just serialization
  15. information.  They also use some of the speller and thesaurus files
  16. from the older version.

  18. This might explain the installation message that someone received when
  19. trying to install NB 4.0 in the same directory that had been used by
  20. NB 3.X.  Note that the installation instructions state clearly that you
  21. must *either* install the NB 4.0 upgrade in a *different* directory
  22. than the NB 3.X programs used, or *else* have the NB 3.X Master
  23. Loading disk and Speller disk handy to insert when indicated.  When
  24. one attempts to install in the same directory as NB 3.X then the
  25. install program tries to copy WORD.OVR (and some other files) over
  26. themselves, generating a DOS error.  This is probably the source of
  27. the strange message reported earlier by some.

  29. To repeat--the safest alternative is to install NB 4.0 in a
  30. *different* directory than the one you used for NB 3.X.
