  14. To those who responded to my inquiry about speeding up MS Works running under
  15. windows, thanks for the replies.  The solution I have found (aside from the
  16. logical one of purchasing a Works for Windows license) is to use the /r
  17. startup parameter for Windows.

  19. In the Windows manual it is indicated that windows can be fired up three
  20. different ways.  The /r parameter starts Windows for non-windows applications,
  21. another parameter starts windows for standard windows applications, and the
  22. straight win command w/o a parameter starts Windows for windows applications
  23. which are memory hogs (Lotus, PageMaker, etc).  By using win /r, I am able to
  24. run Works under Windows with no problem.

  26. The only problem is that I also use PageMaker, so if I want to use both
  27. during the same session, then I have to bail out of windows and reload.
  28. It is an imperfect solution, but acceptable until Works for Windows arrives.
