- Once, when I was a teenager, way before there were hackers, I read
- a nice science fiction story that introduced me to the concept of
- a "silly season." It used to take place in August -- flying
- saucers would land, space aliens would snatch people out for an
- afternoon walk, memories would fade, and dogs would foam at the
- mouth. Then, about October, people would wonder whether it really
- happend, and sure enough, they would go to the library and pull out
- the papers and there it would all be, totally documented, totally
- undeniable.
-
- Maybe because of global warming, the hole in the ozone, electro-
- magnetic radiation from orbiting satellites, the season got longer
- and later.
-
- If it seems especially worse this year, it's because it's occuring
- during that quadrennial celebration call the Presidential Campaign.
-
- Not to worry, the geese are in the flyways, the snow is in the air,
- and it will all be over in 4 weeks.
-
- Stay cool!
