- TITLE:
- > Fuzzy Logic Approach for the Design of Artificial Neural
- > Network Configurations
-
- ABSTRACT:
- > There exist many different artificial neural network structures that can
- > satisfy a given engineering application. Not only can different networks,
- > such as the feedforward net and Kohonen net can be used to satisfactorily
- > perform the given task, but also different configurations of a neural
- > network paradigm can be used as well. The network design process needs
- > to consider many factors such as the number of neurons, number of inputs,
- > accuracy, robustness and training time. In this paper, a method for
- > dynamically changing the number of inputs and hidden nodes of the network
- > using fuzzy logic to optimize a given cost function is presented and
- > discussed. The cost function is used to make a quantitative comparison
- > between individual network structures and is based on the accuracy,
- > robustness, training time, and number of neurons used in the network
- > configuration. For illustration purposes, a fault detection artificial
- > neural network is configured based on the optimization of the cost function.

- DIRECTIONS: From Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill: take I-40 toward Research
- Triangle Park and get off at Davis Drive. Turn left (south), and follow
- Davis through to the intersection with Highway 54. Continue for another 1/2
- mile, and turn left into the BNR entrance on Davis. This is the employee
- lot; park there and go in the door at that entrance.
