- Back where I come from (Oregon -- home of the carnivorous attack
- slugs) that's just a baby. We don't even name them when they're
- that small. :-) Seriously, we have slugs that we call "banana"
- slugs with very good reason...

- I don't think so. Slugs have small rasp-like tongues (called radula)
- which they use to scrape away at low lying plants and fruits. If you
- grow strawberries, lettuce, cauliflower, or any other low-lying fruit
- or vegetable, even pumpkins (!), you don't want to have slugs in
- your garden. They will take horrible little bites out of your produce,
- and they have _lousy_ tablemanners.
-

-
- Yes, well, their slime is hardly part of their charm, especially when
- you step on one barefoot and it schlorps up between your toes... :-P
-
- On the other hand, they *love* beer. Fill a shallow bowl with beer
- and place it in your garden (low down so they can get to it). Come
- back later and see all the slugs that have drowned a happy death.
- But do remember to come back: some dogs (notably labs) also like beer,
- and aren't picky about slurping up a slug or three with it. As gross
- as this is to contemplate, it's nothing compared to the incredible
- doggy-gas that this (the beer, and possibly the slugs) gives them.
-
- Good luck with your garden!
