  12. I am involved in a study of critically ill patients for whom we
  13. wish to compare two groups with regard to the timing of
  14. "Do Not Resussitate" (DNR) orders. Not all patients had DNRs
  15. and many have died. The risk of DNR increases as the risk of
  16. death increases, hence there is informative censoring.
  17. In the spirit of the Mantel-Haenszel-logrank statistic (and
  18. related to the work of Pepe in Stat. in Med. and JASA), I can
  19. conceive of a cascade of 2x2 tables of the form:

  21.     For the n patients still alive at time t,
  22.     what is the fraction, in each treatment group,
  23.     who had DNR before time t.
  24.  
  25. Vary t from 0 to the largest follow-up time.
  26. I need assistance in combining these tables into a test
  27. statistic, or a pointer to an existing statistic suitable
  28. for comparing non-fatal endpoints in the presence of informative
  29. censoring (a terminating event, death).
