  43. It turns out that Winning Ways is wrong (gasp!), and the correct puzzle is:

  45. The ring fits over the lower spheres,
  46. The ring does not fit over the "useless" rings,
  47. The "useless" rings fit through the eye,
  48. The lower spheres do not fit through the eye.
  49.  
  50. A couple of people told me how to solve the (corrected) puzzle.
  51. A couple of people told me they had solved it, and offered to email me the
  52.  solution if required.
  53. One person read the puzzle sufficiently closely to notice that it is not
  54.  possible, and told me what the correction is.
  55. One person checked in Winning Ways, compared with the real thing, and
  56.  verified the mistake.
