  34.                     Announcing the Electronic Newsletter for the
  35.         IFAC/IEEE-CSS Working Group on Guidelines for Open CACSD Software
  36.
  37.
  38. OPEN CACSD, is the electronic newsletter of the IFAC/IEEE-CSS Working
  39. Group on Guidelines for Open Computer-Aided Control Systems Design
  40. (CACSD) Software.
  41.
  42. This newsletter is distributed approximately once a month by its moderator
  43. (me) from the University of Wales in Swansea, scene of the famous
  44. IFAC CADCS '92 conference at which Jan Maciejowski resurrected the working
  45. group. Items covered include any subject related to the "opening up" of
  46. computer-based applications for the analysis, design, simulation and
  47. implementation of control systems. Examples of suitable topics would be
  48.
  49.     o data definitions for CACSD
  50.     o user interfaces for CACSD
  51.     o system modelling languages
  52.     o environments for the integration of CACSD tools
  53.     o how to get CACSD packages to talk to each other
  54.     o advantages and disadvantages of Matlab, MATRIXx, ACSL etc.
  55.     o examples of good or bad practice in commercial packages
  56.
  57. Our aim is to stimulate the exchange of ideas about what an open CACSD
  58. system is or ought to be and hopefully shame the developers into giving
  59. us what we need, not what they want us to have!
  60.
  61. You are invited to subscribe to the newsletter by sending a request to
  62. eechris@pyr.swan.ac.uk. I'd also welcome contributions so that we can
  63. make the newsletter interesting and informative.  Please send
  64. contributions for the newsletter to:  eechris@pyr.swan.ac.uk.
  65.
  66. So far there have been eight issues of the newsletter since its launch
  67. in March of this year. Back issues are still available from the
  68. moderator, include a note in your subscription request.
  69.
  70. Archive copies of the newsletter and electronic versions of interesting
  71. (long) articles are also kept at the Control Information Database (CID)
  72. at Glasgow and the Systems and Control Archive at Dallas (SCAD).
  73. Instructions for accessing these are given in each issue.
  74.
  75.
  76. Cheers
  77.
  78.
  79. Chris Jobling
