- Position 1: LECTURER IN CONCRETE

- Teaching and research in concrete structures, concrete
- technology and structural mechanics. Honours Degree in
- Civil Engineering and some years of teaching and/or research
- and practical experience in structural engineering. Preference
- to applicants who already have a Ph.D. Tenurable
- appointment. Salary range Lecturer $41,000 - $48,688 p.a.

- The research and consulting interests of the concrete group
- include the technology and use of high strength concrete in
- structures, composite action between concrete and metal
- decking, behaviour of high strength concrete piles and tilt-up
- panel construction.

- The successful applicant will be encouraged to participate in
- some of these projects and to develop his or her own areas of
- concrete research.

- Although some financial assistance for research is available
- through departmental funds, it will be necessary for the
- applicant to vigorously seek funding from external sources
- such as the Australian Research Council and the concrete
- industry.

- Undergraduate and post-graduate courses are run on concrete
- technology, reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete and
- concrete design. The successful applicant will be expected to
- be responsible for teaching in these areas as well as assisting
- to a lesser extent with instruction in elementary structural
- mechanics.

- Other duties will include some administration, supervision of
- research projects (undergraduate and post graduate) and
- involvement with professional bodies such as the Institution
- of Engineers, Australia. Contacts and interaction with local
- industry for the purposes of research, teaching and limited
- consulting are encouraged.

- Teaching and Research in Hydrology and other water and
- basic Civil Engineering subjects with emphasis on
- environmental applications. Honours Degree and some years
- practical experience in Civil Engineering. Higher Degree an
- advantage. Appointment for 5 years. Salary range $41,000 -

- This 4-year fixed term appointment is primarily to provide
- support teaching in basic Civil Engineering subjects. This
- includes laboratory supervision, demonstrating, tutorial work,
- and marking. Administrative duties connected with the
- subjects may also be required. The appointee will also have
- the opportunity of pursuing research in any area of Civil
- Engineering for which the Department can provide facilities
- and supervision. The main areas of the Department's
- research activities are geomechanics, structural engineering,
- transport, and water engineering. The appointee would be
- attached to one or other of these groups.

- Assistant Lecturer scale will be determined by the appointee's
- qualifications and experience.
