- I am attempting to build a power inverter from a magazine article and
- would like to use one of several transformers from my spare parts collection.
-
- I have the following questions:
-
- 1) How careful must this selection be made, i.e. is it possible to use
- most transformers with the proper turns ration as long as the current rating
- is within my limits?
-
- 2) Most of my scrap transformers have at least 8 wires coming out
- (some have more) - what are they all for?
-
- 3) Are transformers intended to be used one way only (step-up or
- step-down) or can I reverse them. For example, can I use a 120 VAC primary/
- 12.6 V CT secondary with the power inverter?
-
- 4) What exactly does the VA rating indicate?
-
- I know these seem like elementary questions, but this is the first
- time I'm dabbling with transformers. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
-
- Regards,
-
