- Its them dang cats! Seriously! Cats go over fences with the greatest
- of ease, and kill just for the sheer pleasure of the chase. A case in point
- is the toad population in my own yard. No lack of toads here, lots and lots!
- I encourage my dog to chase the cats out of the yard, but have also taught
- her to not bother the toads. I live in the woods, with zillions and
- zillions of bugs, and since toads eat bugs I try to keep them fat dumb
- and happy!
-
- I have one big fat toad which hangs out on my front porch munching
- on the bugs under the light, and another few which like hanging around
- under the deck, and a bunch more which inhabit the flower gardens (shade
- plants mostly). I always stop and let them get out of the way when I see
- one when mowing the lawn, but otherwise I do nothing to encourage them.
- Although I have to step lightly around the gravel driveway at night else
- I'd squish the ones that like to hang out there...
-
- I also do not use anything but 100% natural products on my lawn.
- No chemicals, pesticides, or otherwise. Occaisionally I throw down some
- soybean meal, but that's about it. I have a well, and I want to keep the
- water I drink as contaminate free as possible.
-
- I would do a study of toad population vs kitty population. I think
- you'd find that as the kitty population increases, the toad population
- vanishes...
