- Scott, I grew up in Andover, NJ...about 20-30 minutes away from Bertrand's
- Island. Like you, I was very young when I last visited it. I don't recall
- ever riding the coaster -- my mom thought it was too run-down, or somesuch.
- However, my younger brother remembers riding it. I drove back there a few
- years ago, and the coaster is definitely not intact. I don't think it was
- completely torn down, because I recall seeing pieces of it (or at least
- I was able to figure out where it used to be).
-
- According to "Roller Coaster Fever", the coaster was named Wild Cat,
- and it was built in 1925 by PTC. It was 80 feet high, with 1200 feet
- of track. There's a nice color photo of one of its drops -- the cars
- had only three sides (open front), with a combined lap/knee bar.
-
- By the way, "Roller Coaster Fever" is ISBN 0-931064-08-2, copyright 1979.
- You can order it from ACE.
