- Gotta tell ya about this one. I just built Dynaflite's Skeeter this
- summer. My first impression with this kit as I opened the box was that I
- had just stepped back in time to the beginning of kit history. Not that the
- balsa had turned dark with age or anything like that, but after having built
- Goldbergs, Great Planes and the like, it was a bit archaic. Specifically the
- instructions were photocopied and stapled together, and they were very
- general without very many drawings or explanations. If you have a few
- models under your belt though, you shouldn't run into anything that you can'
- t handle. Anyway enough of the bad, and on with the good. The plans were
- surprisingly clear, and made up for the poor instructions in a lot of areas.
- I built this model with my twelve year old brother-in-law as his first plane
- and assembly was pretty straigt forward.
- One thing about this model is that the fuse is quite small and
- unless you have micro gear your standard servo's and batt will not fit.
- Something along the size of a Futaba S133 would fit comfortably.
- This model is mostly balsa kit with a few ply parts. Be careful to
- think ahead while building. Some of the steps are much easier to accomplish
- while the plane is still in pieces than trying to remidy them later. IE:
- their were no pushrod holes drilled in the rear bulkhead and had I not
- noticed it I'm sure I would still be working with a sharpened coat hanger or
- something.
- We essetially had three days to finish this model and had I not
- given all the work to my B-I-L It could have been finished in less. Wing
- build up is standard with no real problems. (Except for a few missing wing
- ribs) We finished the Skeeter in red white and blue, much like is shown on
- the box. When finished it is a very clean looking airplane with sharp lines
- that are enhanced by its small size. If you have the radio gear (which I
- don't as of yet so we haven't flown it) the Skeeter would be a cheap, sleek
- model that would get you out flying quickly before the nice weather is
- over. I have seen it advertised for as little as $15.99 (hobby shack I
- think)
-
- -Good Luck and let us know how it goes
