  18. Ok, here are my simpleminded thoughts. 
  19. A thief can do two things: 
  20. - Steal stuff out of your car or from your car
  21.   on the spot (usually restricted to smaller stuff like stereo
  22.   systems, luggage, rims, etc) or 
  23. - Steal the entire car.
  24.  
  25. "Facts":
  26. - If they want to steal your car or what's in it, they will
  27. - They are *usually* in a big rush 
  28. - They want to be as unnoticed as possible
  29.  
  30. Given that, what can we do:
  31.  
  32. - Make it difficult to steal anything.
  33.  
  34. Here are some of the solution towards this:
  35. - Wheel locks (at ~200-400$ rim-wheel combination not a bad idea)
  36. - Alarm with ignition kill. Not fool proof, but a good deterrent
  37.   Or if you just park in a bad area 1-2 yearly => just
  38.   take out the FI fuse or relay. Unless they tow the car or
  39.   have that part, the car will NOT move.
  40.   Make it clear that there is an alarm, but not which (blinking
  41.   light, though that has lost some effectiveness as well)
  42. - Hide stuff (radio, luggage, though pull out radios are usually
  43.   left in the car ==> not very effective anymore).
  44. - Get a "coded" radio. May lose some of its effectiveness as well
  45.   as people figure out how to override that.
  46. - Car Cover with lock (said to be surprisingly effective)
  47.   Thief can't "glance in" and be inconspicuous ==> bulky cover
  48.   is a bitch to take off, potentially setting of the alarm.
  49. - LoJack vehicle recovery or equivalent.
  50. - The club? Minor deterrent. May help a little.
  51. - Garage your 10k$? 20k$? More$? car at home, instead of the ~1k$ junk 
  52.   in the garage you should have thrown out years ago.
  53. - Park intelligently: visible, turn the wheels so they can't tow it
  54.   easily w/o undoing the lock, use the parking brake & leave it
  55.   in gear/Park, etc.
