- I recently moved into an apartment which is off of a main street in Boston.
- It is not very well sonically isolated from the outside environment, and I
- can't listen to my stereo without hearing traffic and "city" noises from
- the outside. Also, the apt. has wood floors and high ceilings. The
- walls are plaster, and everything is very springy. As a result, the bass is
- really lousy, and I have lots of midrange reflections everwhere making for
- a pretty inadequate listening environment for my nice Apogee dipoles speakers!
- Here are some specific questions:
-
- - Can I do something to the windows (covering, insulation) to cut some of
- the noise from the roads? I know you can get stuff for your car (from
- Crutchfield) that you put in the doors and under carpet and it quiets the
- interior by several dbs... would this work in an apartment?!
-
- - How about the floors - I already have sand-filled speaker stands, but the
- floor is still springy hardwood, and I think it absorbs much of the bass
- energy. What to do?
-
- - High plaster walls and ceilings... do I need damping material like
- Michael Green's RoomTune stuff? The midrange bounces all over - I get this
- "aura" of midrange reflections... it's a weird sound, and hard to describe,
- but definitely deteriorates the sound quality.
-
-
- Thanks in advance!! Really!
