- I have a VPI 16.5, and I would never use the machine (vacuum or otherwise)
- without first wetting the LP thoroughly with solution. As a matter of
- fact, VPI recommends to shut off the vacuum as soon as all the liquid have
- been picked up ( usually after 1 or 2 revolutions).

- As for the crackles, it could be resulted from too much static electricity
- build-up on the LP surface. Try use an anti-static gun on the LP before
- playing. I have noticed that good vinyls like those from Chesky are more
- susceptible to static build-up. I am using a Merrill turntable, the platter
- and the motor housing are grounded. This seemed to help somewhat.
