  38. At these prices I could just buy a DAT, AND a high CD player with digital output
  39. to make my own tapes (with full 16-bit digital sound, no compression), and 
  40. still pocket a few hundred dollars.  MD will never succeed at double
  41. the price of DAT (not that I think DAT will succeed in the consumer market).
  42. I also doubt the prices of the discs will be competitive with CDs at first,
  43. especially with the size of the market for >$1000 players.
