- An acquaintance of mine is awaiting the publishing of his biography
- of Flo Ziegfeld. It's a very high quality coffee table book and it
- has been in the publisher's hands for 2.5 years now. He just recently
- got back his proofs and was told to cut 25 percent of the lines
- because the book would run an extra signature without the cuts and
- would boost the cost of the book from the $50 to $75 range.
-
- There was also trouble with the dust jacket design, they couldn't
- get the ink to stick on the metallic foil background on some parts.
- So it went back to the art deparment for 6 months.
-
- BTW, most of his advance (five figures) has been eaten away in
- research, long distance calls, and photo acquisition rights.
-
- Thus the glamor of publishing. And who wouldn't trade places with
- him?
