  18. As many of you know, a Canadian company, SynthaVoice Computers,
  19. recently announced a speech access product for Microsoft Windows
  20. 3.1.  Well, we have received it at the International Braille and
  21. Technology Center for the Blind and I have set it up.

  23. I do have it talking, but I haven't learned it yet, so can't
  24. comment yet on how good or effective it is.

  26. I did have some problems setting it up, and did need to get some
  27. sighted assistance.  That doesn't mean that everyone would, but I
  28. did.  First, there was a bad file on the install disk.  They
  29. immediately put a replacement on their BBS.  I later had to change
  30. that file with debut debug commands given over the phone, because
  31. we needed to use it for com2 and it was set up for 1.  We also had
  32. some hardware incompatibilities and inconsistencies, that everyone
  33. might not have.  it is necessary to run the program with the /c2
  34. compatibility switch, no matter what, with our setup, a compuadd
  35. 486/50 with 16 megs of memory.
