- FAULTY DETECTORS MAY NOT WORK IN FIRE
-
- BRK Electronics is recalling 3.5 million of its electric smoke
- detectors because the alarms may fail to sound during a fire, due to
- corrosion on the electrical contacts. The smoke detectors were
- marketed under the brand names BRK, First Alert and Family Gard.
-
- The company says that between November 1987 and March 1990 they were
- wired into the electrical circuits of homes, apartments and hotels, and
- consumers should not remove or replace them before speaking with
- a BRK representative.
-
- The company will replace the recalled units with new smoke detectors.
-
- The company's battery-operated detectors are not involved in this recall.
-
- For more information, call BRK toll-free at 1-800-228-2250.
