  11. FAULTY DETECTORS MAY NOT WORK IN FIRE

  13.   BRK Electronics is recalling 3.5 million of its electric smoke
  14. detectors because the alarms may fail to sound during a fire, due to
  15. corrosion on the electrical contacts. The smoke detectors were
  16. marketed under the brand names BRK, First Alert and Family Gard.

  18.   The company says that between November 1987 and March 1990 they were 
  19. wired into the electrical circuits of homes, apartments and hotels, and 
  20. consumers should not remove or replace them before speaking with
  21. a BRK representative.

  23.   The company will replace the recalled units with new smoke detectors.
  24.  
  25.   The company's battery-operated detectors are not involved in this recall.
