  20. One thing I noticed while pondering the decision of whether to fix my
  21. dishwasher by replacing the motor/pump unit or to replace it with a 
  22. quieter model was this:

  24. The difference between one of the base-models and the same model, billed
  25. as "whisper quiet" was very simple. The "whisper quiet" model came with 
  26. some insulation that looked like something cadged from a water-heater 
  27. blanket, which you were to wrap around the top and sides before installing.
  28. Apparently a good deal of the noise is from the water hitting the walls of
  29. the machine.

  31. That was it. No other difference. For this, you payed about $80.00 more.

  33. Oh, yes: since my racks and interior were in fine shape, and I just had a
  34. howling pump bearing, I replaced the whole pump unit in 30 minutes for 
  35. about $80.00. Didn't bother to try wrapping the insulation around it, 
  36. but I probably should have, just to prove a point.
