- The bear repellents I've seen use 10% OC (An extract from cayenne peppers).
- While most of the civilian sprays only use 1% OC, all the police departments
- I've heard about use 5% sprays. While there may be a police department
- somewhere using a 1% spray, I'd take the statment as somewhat misleading.
- I'm not at all sure that a 10% spray is actually more effective than a 5%
- spray and I've heard reports that the 10% sprays tend to clog up, which
- would be bad. While OC sprays are supposed to fairly effective is repelling
- animals, I wouldn't want to test it against a bear if there was any other
- reasonable alternative available.
