  17. The battle over military aid to Indonesia still goes on.

  19. Although the House of Representatives unanimously voted to cut US-provided
  20. military training for the Indonesian army for next year, the Senate has
  21. been under a lot of pressure from General Electric, AT&T, and other
  22. groups which profit from Indonesia's repression.

  24. As of Monday afternoon, the Senate Appropriations Foreign Operations
  25. Subcommittee has bucked reponsibility for the decision up to the full
  26. Appropriations Committee. The vote will not be tomorrow, as we had thought,
  27. and probably not this week at all.

  29. Sen. Robert Byrd (D-WV), Committee Chairman, seems to be wavering in his
  30. opposition to cutting IMET. He could use as many phone calls as possible, to
  31. his Appropriations Committee staff (Mark D'Amato) at 202-224-7200.

  33. All Senators can be called through the Capitol Switchboard at 202-224-3121.
  34. In addition to calling Byrd and the nearest appropriations committee members,
  35. the Senators from your home state should be called, as there is likely to be
  36. a floor debate and vote on this issue, perhaps next week.
