- At the request of the CDHG (Comision de Derechos Humanos de
- Guatemala), member of our network, we call upon you to intervene
- URGENTLY on behalf of the following situation in Guatemala.
- Brief description of the situation
- Recent information received from the CDHG draws attention to the
- detention and forced disappearance of the young Juana Lorenza AJCOP
- VELAZQUEZ, a student of the Instituto Normal Mixto Juan de Leon
- (school), in Santa Cruz del Quiche, department of El Quiche.
- According to the information, the young girl was detained on 24
- August 1992 in Santa Cruz del Quiche, by three unidentified armed men
- who took her to an unknown destination and since then there has been
- no news of her.
- Action requested
- Please write to the authorities in Guatemala without delay urging
- them to adopt all the necessary measures to locate AJCOP VELAZQUEZ,
- release her immediately and guarantee her life and physical and
- psychological integrity at all times. Insist that they implement the
- appropriate measures in order to put an end to violations of human
- rights and fundamental freedoms in the country. Inform the
- authorities in your respective countries, the UN, the OAS, the
- European Community and all other intergovernmental and
- non-governmental organisations, urging them to intervene so that
- appropriate measures are adopted and implemented, both at the
- national and international levels, to ensure the effective respect
- for collective and individual human rights in the country at all
- times.
