- I have built emacs 18.55 on a Sun 386i/250 several times without incident.
-
- But something curious happened with 18.57, both on the 386i/250 and a
- Sun 3/160 while installing .. after adding the recommended Sun mouse
- and keyboard elisp to site-init.el, the build got right up to the loading
- of the elisp into emacs after compilation, then the build failed, with the
- messsage 'Pure lisp storage exhausted', or something like that.
-
- It turned out that the problem was the setting of the variable 'PURESIZE'
- in src/config.h. Tweaking this from the default of 120000 or so up to
- 170000 or so made things work.
-
- But now I am trying to build Emacs 18.58 on a friend's machine, a Sun
- 386i/150 running SunOS 4.0.2. Same problem, except that in a phone
- conversation, he reported today that a PURESIZE exceeding 300000 still
- fails. Huh ?!?!?!?
-
- Could some kind soul enlighten me as to the problem ? I would hate to
- think that the 386i community has been hosed by the FSF, as well as by
- Sun.
