  11. On my SVR4 486 I am using emacs 18.56.  I am largely very happy with it but
  12. a couple of things irritate me.  It is set up to use <ESC> as the meta key
  13. which I find unnatural; is it possible to change this to the <ALT> key?

  15. I am also having problems with the arrow keys at my console.  I use a PC with
  16. a VT100 emulator (under DOS) as well as the console and the arrow keys work
  17. perfectly on this without any intervention from me.  However they do not work
  18. with the console (the arrow keys send ^[[OA, ^[[OB &c.) and I have been unable
  19. to bind the movement functions to these sequences (using global-set-key).

  23. PS ISTR that about six months ago there was some discussion about how to show
  24.    the current line # in the status line; did anyone ever get this to work
  25.    safely?
