  11. I have just installed R5 on my system, and I have few questions about it and
  12. OpenWindows ....

  14. Why does OpenWindows need its own copy of X?

  16. what do the endings after the libraries mean, such as ...so.4.3  or ...sa.4.1  ? 
  17. Now that I have installed R5, the openwindows X11R4 is out of date--can I
  18. upgrade it?  Is it possible to simply symbolically link it?  There seem
  19. to be many more X11 library files in the openwindows directory than in the
  20. regular lib directory, although many of them are simply dynamically linked
  21. copies of another file that have a slightly different extension.

  23. Does OpenWindows have its own ld.so.cache?  Is there a special ldconfig for 
  24. this?

  26. If it is not possible to upgrade the openwindows version of X11, what is
  27. the best way to avoid any conflicts that may result?
