- Xdm doesn't run a pty for an interactive session; to do this, you use a
- program like xterm (like is started in the default Xstartup file). If the
- ownership of the slave end of the pty is at fault (ie: the device name
- that shows when you type "who am i"), then your problem is xterm. This is
- an X question rather than a generic UNIX question, and modification of you
- authentication mecahnism (xdm) won't take care of the problem in the
- slightest.
