- DECsystem 5500, running Ultrix 4.2 (plain, not A), configured for and
- has been happily running with 64 ttys. Lots of people running lots of
- shells via xterm or telnet.
-
- Today, we're out of ttys. I went through /dev/tty?? and it looks to me
- like 22 of those ttys are not currently being used. (many of these are
- owned by root, permissions 666, haven't been modified for 3 weeks (nor
- has the associated pty), and there are no processes running associated
- with that tty)
-
- Is there a known Ultrix 4.2 bug whereby free ttys are misplaced? This
- is the longest our machine has ever been up, and it's heavily used, so
- I could see a not-very-frequent problem accreting over 5 weeks.
-
- (I seem to remember this was discussed a few weeks ago, but I don't
- have the articles any more. Any help would be appreciated)
