- We're using a DecStation as a secondary name server for our domain and
- the named-xfer program on it is producing a series of error messages we can't
- work out. They are usually of the form:
-
- named_xfer: zone maths.unsw.EDU.AU res_mkquery T_SOA failed.
- or
- named_xfer: icmp_ping: socket leak exists
-
- and come in blocks of each message. We also get "Too many open files" errors,
- which I assume is related to the second error. As far as we can tell, the
- primary name server is working correctly although the machine it is on is
- rather heavily loaded, so can someone give us pointers to a possible cause?
- Thank you.

- Setup:
- Secondary: DecSystem 5000/200, Ultrix 4.2A, used bindsetup(8) to make.
- Primary: Sequent Symmetry, 8 20Mhz 386's, Dynix 3.1.0
- Both use the supplied version of named.
