  10. I'm trying to install ISC2.2.1 on my 386 and it dies trying mkfs the root
  11. partition on my hard disk.
  12. The install lets me fdisk ok and it seems to have created the partition
  13. table ok.  Poking around with mkpart looks ok.
  14. I can access /dev/rdsk/0p4 correctly.

  16. But, any access to /dev/rdsk/0s? results in errno 2.

  18. I had ISC2.2.2 installed on this disk before ok (for about 2 years)
  19. and had reinstalled it ok a week of so ago (after rearranging my disk).
  20. I booted it the other day and it paniced trying to mount root.
  21. I had been playing with Linux and so figured I trashed the disk somehow.
  22. No problem I thought, I'll just re-install ISC - NOT.
  23. I've tried ISC2.2 and 2.2.1 boot/install.
  24. I've tried deleting the partition under dos before installing (in case
  25. something was left around that shouldn't be)
  26. I've tried zeroing out the partition before installing.
  27. I've tried burning my DOS manuals at midnight under a full moon (usually helps)

  30.     80386 25Mhz, 64K cache, 4Mb DTK motherboard (please no DTK flames)
  31.     1007WA2 ESDI controller
  32.     Miniscribe 330 Mb disk (1222x15x34)
  33.     2theMax VGA card + Viewsonic 5E screen
  34.     Serial ports
  35.  
  36.     Dos and Linux in first 956 cylinders.
  37.     Unix on partition 4, cylinders 957 to 1221
  38.     (reserved, alt, swap and root below 1023 cylinders)

  43. PS I asked earlier about installing ISC above 1023 cylinders.  The consensus
  44.    is that you need /unix and some things in /etc below 1023 cylinders and
  45.    its probably easier to have all of root there.  Also swap comes
  46.    before root and you can't change it (not without major magic).
