  19. ISC UNIX will NOT, according to members of their development staff, soon
  20. be phased out.  I posted a question about the 3.01 getty a few weeks ago,
  21. because I was having a problem with dial-up access at a customer site.
  22. I replaced the modem (a Practical Peripherals 2400 external) with a 
  23. FastComm FDX9696, and the problem went away on my end.  The client's 
  24. programmer, using an apparently identical modem except for the CompUSA
  25. label, still experienced data corruption, but could at least get a login
  26. prompt consistently and login with no problems.  Replacing the asy 
  27. drivers with fas 2.09 cleared up his problems.  At any rate, when I 
  28. posted the question asking if there was a new getty with ISC 3.01, I
  29. received a call from a member of the SunSoft/ISC UNIX SVR3 development
  30. team who assured me that SVR3 would be continue to be supported for
  31. quite some time (I think she may have said "indefinitely", but I can't 
  32. remember for sure).
