  37. You will notice that a considerable amount of software, that is put into the 
  38. public domain, may actually have certain restrictions put upon it; such as
  39. not allowing the software to be used for profitable ventures without explicit
  40. consent from the author.

  42. In my old "DOS" days, I wrote a considerable amount of software which I placed
  43. into the public domain. Even to this day, many of the public domain companies
  44. that bundle PD software onto distribution disks, request my release in
  45. writing.

  47. Also, if I am not mistaken, all software that is written, even if it is not
  48. offically copyrighted, contains an implicit copyright. This statement may,
  49. in fact, not be true; however, I think that it really is.

  51. As far as I am concerned, whenever I put code in the PD, the users can use
  52. it as they see fit; however, as I stated previously, you will see code that
  53. is put into the PD with published restrictions.
