- IMHO This support contract stuff is a crock of shit. We're paying over
- 3 grand a year for support on one package we have. The only time I have
- contacted them was to inform them of a couple of bugs they have in their
- software. This is bullshit.
-
- I used to sell nothing but SCO. Coherent is about to become my platform
- of choice. It is very close, and I don't have to invest a few thousand
- dollars in "courses" to become SCO certified. I have a hard time paying
- money for support from people who generally have less knowledge of their
- own product than I do, and Paying even MORE money for the priviledge of
- selling their products.

- Oh, They listen allright. In fact they are generally OK, But for
- example I STILL have not been able to install 3.2.4 on a 486/33 EISA box
- that I work. Just won't fly, System crawls. I have tried EVERYTHING,
- including replaceing roms, re-config'ing, etc. The parms, etc are
- correct, No fiddling with tune files. ANY I/O generates incredible sys
- %'s on sar -u. Will be replacing the Motherboard in a few weeks. Should
- I have to PAY for them to tell me they can't fix the problem? No, and I
- didn't, but neither did they offer to take it back either. (The
- "upgrade" that slowed me down ...)
-
- Also unfortunately they have the most stable product that supports the
- widest variety of hardware of any Vendor. Period. If I my livelyhood
- is dependent on it I'll still be running SCO for a while longer. But
- we'll see. They are sitting around fat dumb and happy right now, But
- they better wake up. Who the hell wants to spend 2 grand on ODT? Not
- me. I just can't justify that kind of expense to anyone.
