- The vi error message in reverse video "Too much macro text" appears
- when a vi session is initiated, since my .exrc was greatly expanded
- with abbreviations.
-
- The .exrc file is now
- 561 bytes
- 24 lines total
- 5 lines of mapped keys (q v V q _)
- 2 lines of set commands
- 17 lines of abbreviations (:ab)
-
- The error messages appeared after 6 or 7 abbreviations were added to the .exrc
- file. The error message appears briefly at the beginning of the vi session,
- after which the vi user becomes resident in the requested file. The only
- symptom of error, during the vi session, is that the last two abbreviations
- in the .exrc, are non-functional.
-
- Are any special files, vi file entries, environmental variables, or other
- techniques available to adjust the vi environment to fit increased .exrc file
- sizes? Any number of abbreviations and key mappings could thereafter be
- inserted in a ".exrc" file.
-
- I have made an extensive review of my resources, but to no avail.
- My most comprehensive reference is the Nutshell Handbook "Learning the vi
- Editor", Linda Lamb author, published by O'Reilly & Associates, Inc.
- This version is copyright 1986, Second Edition.
